Education

YTW offers classes, workshops and clubs that are uniquely ours.

Program information:

Youth Theatre Works is announcing new Theatre Workshops where we will be dancing, singing, acting, and having all kinds of fun. Age range is 8yrs-High School.
We will be working on stage presence, auditioning, dance for drama, singing and acting.

When: TBD
Where: Mudd Theater, 1339 N. College. (On Foothill where College ends.)

One thing we ask is that participants arrive on time and stay for the entire experience. We will be building trust and figuring out safe ways to express ourselves, so we need everyone to be committed to the group time frame. Class sizes are limited.

We are very much looking forward to these workshops. Another great perk is that you will get firsthand info about YTW’s next season’s shows and auditions. Also, we are constantly reassessing where the needs are for specific classes and age groupings for future workshops. Mostly, we promise a good time!

What to expect: we recently held our first tech workshop, which focused on creating mood and storytelling with light. Keep an eye out for more tech workshops soon! Because of the, well, technical, nature of theatre tech, students should be in the 12 to 18 year old range.

Our tech workshops, like all our classes, are free.

What to bring/wear to our classes, clubs and workshops: These activities are pretty relaxed, overall, but the students should wear comfortable clothes that they can move in and can get dirty.

What to expect: This class is taught by Julian Pielke-Santos and is split into two sections.

For the first hour, we have fun, casual discussions about dance and dance theory. Julian shows different videos, and aims to expand the students’ knowledge and appreciation of dance.

For the second hour, we’ll all get on our feet and learn dance technique. Julian focuses mainly on theatrical jazz, and other styles that will help kids with choreography they may learn throughout their theatre experiences. This will be a more in-depth class than what he teaches on Friday Jams, but will still be welcoming to new dancers, as well as more experienced ones. Our goal is to draw out the potential that every person has, and have everyone build up their confidence on stage.

Dance Club, like all our classes, are free.

What to bring/wear to our classes, clubs and workshops: These activities are pretty relaxed, overall, but the students should wear comfortable clothes that they can move in. Sweatpants, leggings, shorts or any other athletic pants are perfect. Please avoid (if possible) denim items, along with skirts or dresses.

Ideally, long hair should be pulled back. Any closed-toe sneakers/tennis shoes are just fine. Dance shoes are not necessary, but feel free to bring them if you have them!

What to expect: Our Friday Jams are our proudest achievement! These were the first education offering we created and they are like no other theatre class. Part improv, part movement, all collaboration and support in a completely safe space. All are welcome and Friday Jams, like all our classes, are free.
